Fashion Fights Poverty in DC
0I’m a huge fan of Project Runway on Bravo– so I jumped at the chance to attend Fashion Fights Poverty in Washington, D.C. I was hired by Brimmage Communications to cover the event for two different national magazines.
I was able to meet the designers and learn about how they constructed their line. My favorite was Adele Wechsler. She is from South Africa, and now lives in Canada. Her line of organic wedding dresses was breathtaking. She employs impoverished women in South Africa to do intricate beading. All her pieces have a greater meaning.

Parker Posey (who judged the finale of Project Runway in 2005) emceed the event. I had a chance to sit down and chat with her. She said she supports FFP because of its emphasis on environmentally friendly fashion. She is a huge fashion fan. I wanted to know her thoughts on this season of Project Runway, but she said she had not been able to see any of the new episodes.
The actual runway show was full of energy. Two desigers re-used old fabrics to create their collections. Some were made out of old sheets, other outfits were made from vintage dresses. I had a great time, and I’m excited to see my articles in print.
