I’m excited about an event coming up to help children in our area. It’s the 2008 Celebrity Waiter Gala, and I will be a celebrity waitress! I will be working for tips, and all the money raised will go to the Child Advocacy Center of Williamson and Franklin Counties. I’ve never been a waitress before, so I hope I’ll do a good job. And, if you bring some extra cash, you can make a donation and get something in return. Last year, waiters danced on tables, sang karaoke, and everyone played trivia. Hope to see you there!
When: Saturday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Rend Lake Resort in the Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park
Celebrity Waiters: There will be 20 celebrities including Lindsey Mastis and Miss Illinois Ashley Hatfield
Tickets: $25 per person, or $250 per table. VIP tables (centered around the stage) are $300
Call: 618-942-3800 to reserve your seats

I enjoyed speaking with students at this year’s Scholastic Journalism Conference at Webster University in St. Louis. More than 500 high school students attended the conference, and dozens sat in on my session about writing and reporting in a television news room. There were a group of students from my alma mater, Lindbergh High School. It’s nice to see so many students interested in making a difference in journalism.

I’m going to be doing something different. I’ve created a series called “Spark Your Health,” that will launch in February. We’ll be following three women, Jodi, Bobbi, and Kim, who want to lose weight and get in shape. They’ll have a personal trainer to keep them on track, and every week we’ll see what they learned. The best part: you can participate at home. Along with the series will be an online feature called the “WSIL Spark Challenge Team.” Along with the women, you can track your calories and fitness. And, it’s completely free! You can also share your journey through our forum and blogs.
When you sign up, look for me. My user name is: ljmastis
I hope to hear from you!

Lindsey Mastis attended the Inspiring Women’s Gala at Southern Illinois University Carbondale along with several other WSIL-TV representatives, including Angie Wyatt, who spoke at the event.
Several local women were honored at the event, including Dr. Ella Phillips Lacey. When Dr. Lacey retired, she joined the Peace Corps and traveled the world to help others.

Here are my pictures of the Cascade of Colors Hot Air Balloon Glow and Festival at the Southern Illinois Airport. Despite the weather, most of the balloons participated in the race, and the glow went on as planned!
